I'm Deanna McGaughey Summers, a full-time instructor in the Sullivan University System (Spencerian and Sullivan College of Technology and Design).

I hold a PhD in Rhetoric and Composition from University of Louisville, an MA in Sociology from Ohio University, and an MS (and BS) in Administration of Justice from University of Louisville.

I've taught for nineteen years in several colleges and universities, as well as the Kentucky prison system.  I've also taught online courses in Sociology and English for ten years at three universities.  I'm currently teaching online and onsite courses at Spencerian and Sullivan College of Technology and Design.

My research interests cover a variety of topics in Rhetoric, Composition, Sociology, and Justice.  I have (co)authored several articles and chapters on sociological issues that have appeared in more than a dozen academic journals, books, and textbooks that include Gender and Society, Journal of Offender Rehabilitation, Gaming Lives in the 21st Century, International Journal of Sexuality and Gender, Classic and Contemporary Readings in Social Psychology, and Sexualities. I have also served as a reviewer for textbooks that include The Dynamics of Inequality, Social Theory, and The Meaning of Difference.

In addition to teaching and research, I have also performed service work in the areas of diversity, inequality, and justice, including maintaining a twitter account that provides curated content on contemporary social issues related to diversity and inequalities.

The toolbar at the top of this page contains more information on my research, service, and teaching experience.
